Republicans demand Garland and Wray testify before Judiciary Committee on Trump raid

Republicans are demanding that FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland appear before the House Judiciary Committee on Friday to explain the Justice Department’s actions in the raid on former President Donald Trump.

FBI agents executed a search warrant at Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Fla., on Monday, apparently as part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents. It was the first such raid in the country’s history.

As Democrats and liberal cable pundits celebrated, Republicans were united in their condemnation of what appeared to be an effort to misuse law enforcement to target an opposition member and likely candidate in the upcoming election. presidential.

Experts said the raid appeared excessive, even though it had a legitimate purpose. Critics also noted the fact that Democrats who appeared to be at fault — including President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden — were never raided.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, noted that the House would be in session Friday to vote on the so-called “Cutting Inflation Act,” which passed by the Senate on Sunday, that Wray and Garland are expected to take the opportunity to appear before the committee on Friday to explain the extraordinary congressional raid.

This Friday we return to vote on this stupid bill… Merrick Garland, Chris Wray, come to the House Judiciary Committee this Friday and answer our questions today about this action, which has never happened in American history . … Why not talk to President Trump and ask him to provide the information you are looking for? It’s amazing, and get the story here: A year ago, it was Merrick Garland who used the Patriot Act against parents. A day ago it was 87,000 officers in a bill the Democrats passed to go and harass IRA Americans. And today we have the raid on the house of a former president? In America? So – heck, we deserve answers now, and this Friday would be a good time.

The ultimate decision to ask Wray and Garland to testify would rest with the committee’s chairman, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY).
