WWE SummerSlam descends on August 21 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and this is the first full stadium show WWE has done since the coronavirus pandemic took hold in early 2020.
The company hosted Performance Center shows to begin with and eventually, at SummerSlam last year, they moved to the ThunderDome where fans were part of the shows on LED screens.
WWE returns on tour in mid-July with Money in the Bank being the first pay-per-view welcoming fans once again.
SummerSlam is following and, as you can imagine, WWE is trying to load this show full of their biggest stars.
WrestleVotes reports that WWE wants Roman Reigns and John Cena to be the main event of the show.
“WWE is 100% trying to make SummerSlam this year’s WrestleMania,” says Wrestling Votes‘sources, who tell the Twitter account that “all resources will be exploited”.
The votes say WWE hasn’t decided, but they think the company wants Roman Reigns vs. John Cena to headline the show.
sports reporter in florida Jon Alba confirmed from multiple sources that indeed, Reigns vs Cena is “the main event being targeted right now.”
Cena made no secret of his desire to return to WWE. The 16-time world champion wanted to be at WrestleMania 37, but his filming schedule and quarantine rules would have made it impossible.
“I really, really want to go back to WWE,” Cena told the Indian Express. “I really want people to come back to WWE. Heck, I’m with everyone I think of in the world saying I just want the world to be back to normal. “
Cena and Reigns had a fight once in 2017 over pay-per-view No Mercy. Reigns took the win there, but Cena is most remembered giving Reigns a lesson in promotions on live TV.
Reigns is a different man. The tribal chief is the best character in professional wrestling today in many eyes and Reigns has reached a totally different level than before.
It would definitely be the banner match WWE is looking for and another win for Reigns just might put him on the path to The Rock, a man Cena beat and lost at WrestleMania.
