Report: Giants, Vikings offered Patriots multiple first-round picks to move up to No. 3

After months of speculation, the Patriots finally did what most people expected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft: They retained the third overall pick and drafted North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye .

But if they had wanted to negotiate down, there were good deals available to them: ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports that the Giants and the Vikings offered several first-round picks to the Patriots.

The report states that the Giants’ offer was the No. 6 overall pick and their 2025 first-round pick, while the Vikings’ offer was the No. 11 and No. 23 overall picks and their 2025 first-round pick. first round of 2025, for No. 1. 3 picks and two mid-round picks.

The Giants publicly say they believe in Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback, but attempting to move on Maye suggests they would have loved to move on from Jones if they could have rocked the trade. The Vikings were happy to be left with JJ McCarthy after moving up to 10th overall, but they were likely looking to trade higher for Maye.

Now the Patriots are hoping Maye can play at a level that makes them happy they turned down those offers.
