This Tuesday, according to L’Equipe, the leaders of the Breton club have made their choice: Bruno Genesio will be the next Rennes coach. The former Lyon coach, who is returning from a two-season freelance in China, at Beijing Guoan, was preferred to Jocelyn Gourvennec, another track which held the rope internally.
His proximity to Florian Maurice, sports director of Stade Rennais and whom he knew in Lyon, may have played a role in this decision. The officialization has not yet been completed by the club itself, with L’Equipe indicating that details remain to be worked out.
Coach of Olympique Lyonnais from December 2015 to 2019, Genesio led the club on three occasions to the Ligue 1 podium, with a second place in 2016 and two 3rd places in 2018 and 2019.
