Redstone Arsenal publish mandatory masking policy

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WHNT) – The Redstone team is implementing a mandatory masking policy due to rising COVID-19 cases in and around Madison.

Fueled by a recent variant of the Omicron BA-5 strain, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) fear this could be the start of a new wave.

The policy took effect immediately, according to a post on social media.

The CDC states that when community levels are high, that’s when the mask-wearing policy comes back into effect. Redstone Arsenal are under strict orders not to take any more risks.

Kavanaugh Breazeale, the director of communications at Redstone Arsenal says that at this time they have no choice but to place the warrant.

“The Department of Defense, the Department of the Army, and Redstone [have] always been committed to providing a safe work environment for all employees and all visitors and everyone who comes to Redstone,” Breazeale said. “But the Department of Defense had a policy that whenever the number of COVID-related activities increased in a certain area, the mask policy was to come back into effect.”

The indoor masking policy applies to all employees and all buildings located on the Arsenal.

Redstone Arsenal has seen its visitor population soar this summer.

Health officials have told the Ministry of Defense it is time to regain control of the virus, and Redstone Arsenal should replace the mask mandate whether visitors and employees like it or not.

“As we know the Huntsville and Madison County area and the numbers have gone up a bit, so we had to go back to masks today due to a Department of Defense wide policy,” said Breazeale told News 19. “Anyone who enters a Department of Defense or Redstone building or anything on Redstone property must be masked.

Redstone team officials say they will continue to monitor the data.
