Redmi Note 12 launching in India later this year, sporting 50-megapixel sensor: report

Redmi Note 12 could be launched later this year and it could come with a 50MP primary camera, according to a report. The phone would be part of the Redmi Note 12 series, which would have three handsets – Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro and Redmi Note 12 Pro+. Previously, two Redmi Note 12 series phones were granted network access license in China. These two smartphones are codenamed L16 and L16U. The development comes a few weeks after the specifications of the Redmi Note 12 Pro as well as the Note 12 Pro+ were leaked.

Citing tipster Digital Chat Station, 91Mobiles reported that the Redmi Note 12 will launch in the second half of the year. It’s worth noting that the tipster didn’t explicitly use the Redmi Note 12 moniker. The supposed launch timeline is in line with a previous report where the same tipster claimed the series would launch in Q2 2022. The Redmi series Note 12 is a successor to the Redmi Note 11 line.

The tipster also claims that the Redmi Note 12 will get a triple rear camera setup which has a similar design as the Redmi Note 11. The main camera is designed to get a 50-megapixel main sensor. The phone is also said to have a flat screen and a center-aligned hole-punch for the selfie snapper.

The Redmi Note 12 series is supposed to get Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro and Redmi Note 12 Pro+ handsets. Specifications for the Pro and Pro+ models have also been leaked. Redmi general manager Lu Weibing teased the upcoming Redmi Note series on Weibo last month, suggesting that the upcoming series will be a successor to the Redmi Note 11 series.
