Ray Epps’ January 6 conspiracy theory takes a reality hit

Tucker Carlson deserves a special mention here. He regularly amplified claims about Epps, with Epps mentioned on his show on October 25, November 1, December 14, January 5 and January 6. Epps played a central role in Carlson’s fringey “documentary” that attempted to blame federal agents for the Capitol riot, elevating claims by Darren Beattie, a far-right conservative media figure fired from the Trump administration for attending a white nationalist conference. As Carlson’s former colleague Jon Ward wrote in his evisceration of the Carlson documentary, a similarly accused individual identified by Beattie was subsequently arrested. Beattie also appeared at one point on the Carlson show to accuse other anonymous individuals of being federal agents; one was quickly revealed as the wife of an arrested person.
