Saturday Night Live once again features a rapper as host and musical guest for this week’s Halloween episode. Jack Harlow, 24, has just released his second album and a world tour, and is a gateway to the show for young fans.

SNL mainstay Cecily Strong returned to this week’s episode – she was absent from the first episodes of the season due to her role in solo show ‘The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe’ at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. The play, which originally starred Lily Tomlin, ended on October 23, so Strong is back with his SNL castmates.

Open cold

Last night’s cold open took aim at some of the top Republican candidates gaining ground in the upcoming midterm elections. Heidi Gardner played Judy Woodruff for the “PBS NewsHour”.

“Your grandmother is talking about us when she says, ‘I saw that on the news,'” she said.

Keenan Thompson reprized his Herschel Walker impersonation, Mikey Day plays Dr. Oz, and Cecily Strong is Kari Lake, the GOP candidate for governor of Arizona. Day as Oz rooted for the “Pennsylvania Phillies” and talked about having a delicious “Philadelphia cheese and steak.” Strong as Lake spoke of constantly being “fuzzy” and targeting the most pressing issues for his constituents. “Arizonans want to talk about issues that matter to them, like crime in New York or crime in Detroit.” All three mocked the cult of personality that has gripped the right this election cycle.

Monologue

Jack Harlow cracked a few self-deprecating jokes during his monologue which had the audience laughing. He compared himself to the Goat of Narnia and said some people online say he looks like “the guy who rips tickets in half at the movies” or “if you try to draw Justin Timberlake from memory”.

He plugged in the release of his recent second album and mentioned that he had just wrapped filming his first movie, “White Men Can’t Jump,” a remake of the 1992 sports comedy film. Harlow also entered the crowd to speak to a member of the public, who said she was a “huge Jack Harlow fan”.

Halloween Red Carpet Show

This skit with Cecily Strong and Mikey Day treated the streets at 2:53 a.m. on Halloween night filled with costumed revelers as the “Post-Halloween Red Carpet Special.” They interviewed “Halloween icons” like the drunk guy in an inflatable dinosaur costume, the dad who forgot to take his child for tricks or treats earlier, the wasted white girl looking for her Uber and ‘the sober middle-aged man who’s trying to walk his dog. Harlow made an appearance as a frat boy in a tampon suit, noting that his dad will “take care of any legal issues” for him, and asking where he can find coke.

A.A. meeting

The cast members are at an AA meeting when Jack Harlow talks about an idea he has for a Pixar movie. The reunion members then collaborate on ideas for the film, about the lost baggage trying to find their way home. “It’s Jason Bateman!” said a member about the suitcase which is a bit stuck but funny. “And maybe there can be a woman’s suitcase that has, I don’t know, boobs,” Keenan Thompson said.

Tom Hanks makes a late appearance in the skit to thunderous applause from the audience, announcing another Halloween skit later that night.

Jack Harlow

Jack Harlow performs “Lil Secret”, “First Class” and “State Fair”, all from his recent album, “Come Home the Kids Miss You”. “First Class” covers Fergie’s 2006 hit “Glamorous”.

weekend update

During the weekend update, Colin Jost and Michael Che threw punches at Elon Musk buying Twitter, the Dr Oz debate and John Fetterman, Kanye West and Rasheed Sunak, the UK’s new prime minister. United.

Former cast member Bobby Moynihan appeared as “the drunken uncle”, another guest appearance hinting at the last Halloween sketch of the night.

The return of David Pumpkins

In a sketch nearly identical to the original David Pumpkins sketch, a 2016 skit written at 4 a.m. on a night that ended up becoming a hit with fans, Jack Harlow, Ego Nwodim and Andrew Dismukes are visitors to a carousel of horror. After terrifying scenes of classic horror characters like Annabelle and Michael Myers, David Pumpkins (Tom Hanks) accompanied by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan begin to appear in every scene. The sketch is almost a shot-for-shot remake of the original, but the crowd loved it.
