Raphael Varane aims to win the FA Cup as the French center-back begins his run in the competition.
However, performance will have to be much better if they are to lift the trophy as manager Ralf Rangnick calls on his players to play with more “intensity and physicality”.
After their first loss under Rangnick to Wolves, the pressure is on the interim manager to turn things around when his side take on Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, live on talkSPORT from 7pm.
The club’s current form is far from ideal but the former RB Leipzig manager will be able to call on Varane against Villa.
The Frenchman is back with the squad after a hamstring injury and is looking forward to making his competitive debut as he aims for another trophy victory.
“I think it’s still exciting and it’s another challenge and a new competition [for me]”Varane told the club when asked how he felt ahead of the draw.
“When it’s a new competition [and the start of the competition] you still want to win it and feel the challenge. The most important thing is that you want to win.
If Man United get over Aston Villa they will host Middlesbrough in the fourth round but in order to do that they have to meet Rangnick’s demands.
And he demanded more from the players as they seem to match the intensity of some of the best teams in the league.
“It’s the only way to compete at this level,” said the 63-year-old.
“Every time you watch games, even if they’re not the best teams, they play with intensity, physique, energy and they sprint.
“This is what we have to do. We must evolve towards this kind of team.
“Like I said after the first game against Crystal Palace, we showed at least in the first half a lot of these things and it’s about implementing them in the squad. It’s our job.
“We have to develop the players and identify for each game the players who are willing and able to do it and deliver exactly what we talked about.
“The pressure is strong in a club like Manchester United. I’m pretty sure the players are aware of this. The team is able to dominate matches, to win matches.
