Rangers vs Napoli moved to Wednesday with UEFA games set to take place this week | Soccer News

Rangers’ Champions League group stage game at home to Napoli has been pushed back 24 hours to Wednesday following talks between Police Scotland, the Glasgow club and UEFA.

European football’s governing body has announced that the tie at the Ibrox stadium, originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday, has been rescheduled for Wednesday September 14 at 8pm.

A statement from UEFA explained: “This is due to severe police resource limitations and organizational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

The UEFA Youth League match between the two sides originally scheduled for Tuesday has also been moved to a 2pm kick-off on Wednesday.

UEFA have also announced that no away fans will be present at Ibrox this week and, in the interests of sporting fairness, Rangers fans will not be allowed in for the second leg in Napoli on October 26.

Fans have been strongly advised to avoid making travel arrangements and to respect this extraordinary situation.

All UEFA competitive matches are scheduled to go ahead as scheduled next week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

All Premier League and English Football League games this weekend have been postponed as a mark of respect.

All matches in the Women’s Super League, Women’s Championship and Women’s FA Cup have also been postponed.

The Scottish Football Association announced the postponement of all professional matches over the weekend, while all football in Northern Ireland and Wales was also halted.

The English Football League is set to resume on Tuesday with a full midweek schedule.
