Rangers sporting director insists club are not under financial pressure to sell stars as Giovanni van Bronckhorst warns players amid Connor Goldson’s comments

Giovanni van Bronckhorst says all Rangers players who lack hunger will have a ‘tactile manager’ to respond to.

The Dutchman replaced Steven Gerrard at the helm and watched from the stands as Gers crumble from the Scottish League Cup in his first game since the change of manager.

Their 3-1 loss to Hibernian came as a shock, but even more shocking were comments from Rangers defenseman Connor Goldson, who said his teammates had “lost some of their hunger.”

It won’t fly under Van Bronckhorst, who said in his official unveiling: “I expect everyone to be on board with me. It is my duty to prepare the players for the matches. I will prepare them in their attitude, their hunger, whatever.

“For me as a coach and a player, I think the hunger has to come from within you. It starts with that. It would make things a lot easier as a coach.

“Being involved in football my whole life, I know what needs to be done and what you need to do to be successful. This message that I passed on as a coach from the start. I will continue to do this.

“If something or a player thinks otherwise, they will have a tough manager.”

Gerrard’s departure disappointed many Rangers fans and raised questions about the future of key players such as Goldson, Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara and Nathan Patterson.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson, who sat alongside Van Bronckhorst at the press conference in Ibrox on Monday, admitted that the “player swap” was part of the plans, but the club are not under no pressure to unload their stars.

Wilson said: “As a club we have been clear – there is no mandate that we have to sell players.

“We have been very clear in our communications that we see player trade as something that has to be normal for this club, as it is for almost all clubs in world football.

“We haven’t been strong on this (selling players) in the past. It’s clear to see. But our investors continued to support this club all the time.

“We have turned down some important offers for gamers in the last two windows. We will do it again unless it’s the right offers for the right players at the right time.

Wilson also insisted that any income generated from player sales would be reinvested in Van Bronckhorst’s squad.

He added, “If we take any offers, we will reinvest in the team to keep moving forward.

“When I talk to Douglas Park and John Bennett we always say the guys had to invest a lot in this club to bring it back to the club we know it has to be.

“We are at a very good level today, but we have been clear about our strategy and what it needs to do to move forward. But there is no obligation for the manager to have to. sell anyone.

“Gio will have a team perspective first and foremost. Then we’ll discuss what that looks like.

“If Gio wants to do something, we’ll take an opinion on it and look at it. There’s nothing set in stone here now. But we are absolutely aware that we always want to improve this team in any way we can.

“If Gio thinks there’s something we need to do, then we’ll look into it.”
