A lot of intrigue surrounds Rangnick, but what do his new rivals think of him? Brendan Rodgers – who had been heavily linked with United’s work before the German was made an interim appointment – has revealed he has spoken to the 63-year-old before.

“I think they have appointed a man who is very experienced in football, both in his role as sporting director and coach,” said the Leicester manager.

“I don’t know Ralf personally. I met him when I was at Liverpool, and we had a phone conversation, then at Celtic, I played against his team Red Bull Leipzig.

“But he’s clearly a very, very experienced guy who is very well thought out in the game, and he will come and offer that experience and that stability to the club and they will assess him from there.”

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieria admitted he didn’t know much about Rangnick but said he was interested to see what he can do in Manchester.

“Obviously I know the name, I know what he accomplished when he was in Germany and I know he is a very respected person in football.

“But I’m like everyone else, I’ll wait and see what he does in Manchester [United], but I think it’s good to have someone with that experience in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp spoke last week about his thoughts on Rangnick’s impending appointment, having drawn a lot from him after working together in the Bundesliga.

The Liverpool man admitted that “a good coach comes to England”.

He said: “Unfortunately a good coach comes to England, that’s how it is, to Manchester United.

“He’s obviously a really, really experienced manager. He built the most famous two clubs out of nowhere with appropriate threats and forces in Germany with Hoffenheim and Leipzig.

“He’s done a lot of different jobs in football, but his first concern has always been to be a coach, to be a manager, and that is obviously his best skill.”

Klopp has also backed Rangnick to turn United into an ‘organized’ squad – but added that his compatriot will need time to turn things around at Old Trafford.

“United will be organized, I think, on the pitch,” he added.

“I think we should do it and that’s obviously not good news for the other teams.

“But like all coaches in the world we need time to train with our teams and Ralf will realize pretty quickly that he doesn’t have time to train because they play all the time which makes things a little more difficult for him. “

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has won football’s biggest prize in the Champions League, but Rangnick has given his training break.

“He helped me a lot because he was my coach and then he was one of the main figures in convincing me to try to coach, so he was a huge influence on all of us at that time. “he said, emphasizing one thing he retained. .

“He showed us that it was not necessary to follow people to the bathroom during football games because it was the belief at the time, that defenders follow attackers wherever they go. He showed us that it was possible to defend everyone in an area.
