Ralf Rangnick apologizes to Manchester United fans after humiliating defeat at Brighton

The defeat left United trailing fourth-placed Arsenal by five points. With Rangnick’s team having only one game left, they cannot finish higher than their current sixth place in the standings and all teams above them have games in progress.

In fact, they could finish lower in the standings if they are overtaken by West Ham United, who are six points behind them but two games behind.

United have lost three of their last five league games, dropping 12 goals in that run. It’s no wonder the Old Trafford faithful have been hugely frustrated as United have endured their worst Premier League season for goals conceded, with a tally of 56 so far.

“From the first to the last minute it wasn’t enough and in every important area we were second,” Rangnick said.

“To start, we can only apologize to our supporters, it was a terrible performance and a humiliating defeat.

“It was a completely different game and today, from the first minute, we gave them too much time, too much space and we were never able to stop them from playing through our lines.

“The game plan was completely different, we told the players to be as compact as possible, but we couldn’t stop them.”
