Rajon Rondo is already making noise with the riders

Rajon Rondo was recently traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Cleveland Cavaliers and it looks like a little change of scenery was exactly what the doctor ordered the legendary playmaker to be.

Although he’s only played for the Cavs for two games, he’s showing signs of promise and power that just weren’t there in previous weeks.

Once again people counted Rondo and said he was a washed shell of his old self.

Again, it looks like he’s proving them wrong.

Rejuvenated Rondo

In Rondo’s first outing for the Cavs, he scored 11 points, got five rebounds and three assists.

In addition, the former Boston Celtics superstar was five to six off the free throw line.

Then Sunday night in a loss to the Golden State Warriors, Rondo created 15 points – including 11 in just the fourth quarter.

While these might not be the sort of numbers to blow your hair back, you have to consider what Rondo was doing a few days ago.

Here’s his point output for the games immediately preceding his first with Cleveland: zero, zero, five, three, four, zero.

Granted, his minutes were limited in these last few games with the Lakers, but as you can see he’s already producing many more for the Cavs.

Most importantly, he shows flashes of his old self when it comes to his speed and enthusiasm.

There’s a lot of good things to say about Rondo, but he’s also sadly known to phone him when he’s not feeling committed to a team (take note of his short stint with the Dallas Mavericks).

It doesn’t appear to be the case so far, Rondo looks happy and invigorated playing for the Cavaliers.

He also looks healthy and fast again.

That’s great news for the Cavaliers, especially this year when they actually have a shot at making it far in the playoffs.

The Cavs Crusade

You might not have expected it just a few months ago, but the Cavaliers are doing much better than they have been in years.

The last two weeks have been a bit more difficult for them, but this team is way above what we have seen in the last few years.

Unless they collapse completely over the next few months, the Cavaliers enter the playoffs – and having Rondo by their side will be a huge boon to them.

When he’s playing at his best, there are few other playmakers in the league that rival Rondo in terms of playmaker and assists.

Even after 16 seasons in the NBA, Rondo still looks and plays smarter than so many – his basketball IQ is right off the charts.

The Cavs are mostly made up of young players, which is also an important attribute for success in the league.

But with that, youngsters need intelligence and experience – that’s what the Cavs were getting with injured Ricky Rubio and that’s certainly what they’re getting with Rondo as well.

If Rondo remains healthy in the months to come, he will undoubtedly be a major advantage for the Cleveland team as they prepare for the playoffs.

These first matches are just a glimpse of what could possibly come from him.

Some people scoffed when the Cavs came to Rondo, but now it looks like it was the right move for this promising young team.
