Rainn Wilson ‘changes’ name to raise awareness of climate change

Describing it as a “cheap stunt”, actor Rainn Wilson came out on Thursday with a new name on social media, calling himself “Rainnfall Heat Wave Rising Sea Levels Wilson” in a bid to raise awareness about climate change.

On behalf of environmental advocacy group Arctic Basecamp, “The Office” star posted a video about the global impacts of climate change in the Arctic.

“What happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic,” Wilson said in his video. “The melting of the polar ice caps increases the risks around the world, including extreme weather events that affect us all.”

Wilson said changing his name and asking others to do the same would help raise awareness of these dangers, especially as world leaders. gathered in Egypt for the international conference on climate change COP27.

“As a cheap little stunt to help save planet earth, I changed my name on Twitter, Instagram, and even on my fancy stationery,” he joked. “I am an arctic risk name changer that will change the game.”

Wilson tweeted that he was not really able to change his name on Twitter, however, due to the temporary restriction on name changes for verified accounts, put in place by Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk.

The sitcom star also tweeted that if enough people changed their names, they would catch the eye of world leaders at COP27.

“If enough of us do it, then maybe @cop27_egypt will be when our world leaders sit up and take notice of the Arctic risks and present a solution,” he wrote.

Wilson has already created a list of new names for fellow celebs, such as “Cardi The Arctic B Melting,” “Amy Poehler Bears Are Endangered,” “Samuel Earth Is Getting Hot As L. Jackson,” and “Harrison Why Not Drive An Electric? Ford.”
