Rachel Zegler, Kit Connor to Star on Broadway in ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor to make their Broadway debut in new Shakespeare production Romeo + Juliet this autumn.

The production will feature music by Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff, who is also making his Broadway debut, Sonya Tayeh’s Move (Red Mill! Musical comedy) and directed by Sam Gold. Exact dates and theater have not yet been announced, but tickets are expected to go on sale in May.

Although few details have been released about this version of the Shakespeare classic, the production uses the tagline “Young people are screwed” and promises an angrier version of the tale.

“With the presidential election approaching in November, I wanted to do a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and that releases the anger that young people feel towards the world they inherit,” said Gold, who is directing this season’s film. An enemy of the people.

Meanwhile, in London, Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers are set to star in another production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by Jamie Lloyd. This production runs from May 23 to August.

Connor, best known for his role as Nick Nelson in the series Heart stroke, also appeared as young Elton John in Rocket Man and played a role in The Guernsey Potato Peeling Pie and Literary Society, The Mercy And Little Joe. Connor has several stage credits in London, including in Fanny and Alexander at the Old Vic. He is set to direct the horror-mystery film One of us and stars in Ace Entertainment’s film A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow in front of Maia Reficco.

Zegler rose to prominence playing Maria in Steven Spielberg’s new adaptation of West Side Storethere at the age of 17. She played the role of Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and in Shazam! Fury of the gods. She is expected to appear as Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake in 2025.

Antonoff recently won his third consecutive Grammy Award for Producer of the Year and has collaborated with artists including Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, The 1975, Diana Ross, Lorde, St. Vincent and Florence + The Machine. He also fronts the pop rock group Bleachers.

Seaview, which is behind several shows this season including An enemy of the people, is the lead producer of the play.
