South Africa extended their dominance in the 2023 Cricket World Cup by defeating Bangladesh on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Bangladesh had no answer to the target of 383 set by the Proteas as they could only get 233 in the chase.
The key to South Africa again reaching a total of over 300 was a brilliant hundred notched by their opener Quinton de Kock.
de Kock smashed a hundred off 101 deliveries. The South African opener also becomes the first batter to reach three hundreds in this edition of the World Cup.
This is his 20th ODI ton. de Kock now needs just one more century to reach Herschelle Gibbs, who is third on the list of batsmen with the most hundreds for South Africa in ODIs.
de Kock stepped on the accelerator after reaching the hundred as he hammered 74 more runs in the next 38 balls of his innings. With a knock of 174 in 139 balls with much of the last five overs left for the South African innings to come, de Kock looked set to notch his maiden ODI double hundred.
However, that was not supposed to happen as de Kock clipped a full ball from Hasan Mahmud straight to Nasum Ahmed at deep back. de Kock returned after a terrific effort of 174 in 140 balls hitting 15 fours and seven sixes along the way.
During this thunderclap, de Kock became the top scorer in the World Cup. With 407 points, he is now 53 points ahead of second-placed Virat Kohli.
