Queen Elizabeth revokes Prince Andrew’s military titles, royal sponsorships amid Epstein scandal

Prince Andrew could face a US lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre.

Prince Andrew, Duke of York, had his military titles and royal sponsorships revoked just a day after his attempt to have a lawsuit dismissed against Virginia Giuffre, alleged victim of Jeffrey Epstein, was turned down.

Buckingham Palace announced Thursday that Andrew’s titles and sponsorships have been returned to his mother, Queen Elizabeth.

“With the Queen’s approval and consent, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the Queen,” the palace said in a statement. “The Duke of York will continue to hold no public office and defend this matter as a private citizen.”

A New York federal judge on Wednesday rejected Prince Andrew’s claim that a 2009 settlement agreement between Giuffre and Jeffrey Epstein exempted him from civil litigation.
