Putin reveals timetable for quitting oil and gas — RT Business News

Hydrocarbon demand could last up to 50 years, says Russian president

Natural resources such as oil and gas will be actively used for a long time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday. According to him, the demand for hydrocarbons is there to last another 50 years.

“I have already said several times that it is too early to abandon hydrocarbons”, Putin pointed out, “but we still need to understand where humanity is heading.”

According to the head of state, this is particularly important for the ecological well-being and quality of life of Russians, which is a priority.

The Russian President, who has long called for the maintenance of a “balance of interests” between the hydrocarbon and renewable energy sectors, had previously instructed the government to study the introduction of alternative energy sources in certain regions of the country. The Cabinet of Ministers must submit proposals by September.

Putin also said earlier that Russia will achieve full carbon neutrality by 2060, stressing that it will take a lot of work to achieve this goal. The President also noted that it is important not to turn the climate agenda into a tool to solve political or economic problems.
