According to the Russian presidency, Vladimir Poutine and Angela Merkel expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, during a telephone exchange.

“The leaders said they were satisfied that the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would soon be completed,” the Kremlin reported on July 21 in a press release, following a telephone interview between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. And to continue: “The Russian president underlined the constant commitment of the German side in the implementation of this project of an exclusively commercial nature, which aims to strengthen the energy security of Germany and the European Union”.

In addition, on a separate subject concerning the same energy issue, the Russian head of state and the head of the German government mentioned, again according to the Kremlin, “the possibility of extending the agreement between Gazprom and the Ukrainian Naftogaz on the gas transport through Ukrainian territory after 2024 ”.
