ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. – Detectives investigating shootout that left three people dead in PublixRoyal Palm Beach supermarket Thursday morning, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office announced.
A man, woman and child were killed, and the gunman was among the dead, officials said. It was not immediately clear who the shooter was.
“It was NOT an active shooter situation,” said Teri Barbera, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, in a statement.
Several patrol cars arrived at The Crossroads Mall shortly before noon. A sheriff’s officea helicopter hovered over the store, and a Palm Beach County rescue vehicle was at the scene.
Barbera said detectives from the bureau’s violent crime division were at the scene to investigate.
“Detectives are in the early stages of determining what led to the shooting,” Barbera said. “More information will be posted when it becomes available.”
Royal Palm Beach is a village of about 40,000 people, according to Census Bureau data. The village is about 15 miles inland, west of West Palm Beach.
