PUBG: Battlegrounds developer Krafton announced last week that it would make the game free-to-play. The Battle Royale game will transition to a free-to-play model in January 2022. The announcement was made during The Game Awards 2021 event. Many existing PUBG: Battlegrounds players who purchased the game on various platforms were worried about how whose purchase would be compensated. Krafton has announced a new Battlegrounds Plus “upgrade” which provides additional benefits and existing PUBG: Battlegrounds players will get this upgrade for free.
As compensation for players who purchased PUBG: Battlegrounds, developer Krafton will be offering the Battlegrounds Plus free upgrade, instead of paying $12.99 (around Rs. 990). Battlegrounds Plus will receive the Captain’s Camouflage Hat, Captain’s Camouflage Mask, Captain’s Camouflage Gloves, and an additional 1,300 G-Coins (in-game currency). Upgrading also unlocks access to Survival Mastery XP with a 100% boost, Medal tab in Career mode, Ranked, and the ability to create and play a custom match. For regular players, Battlegrounds Plus is a one-time purchase.
In addition to the aforementioned perks, existing players will also receive a Legacy Combat Hardened Corset, Legacy Combat Hardened Vest, Legacy Combat Hardened Gloves, Legacy Combat Hardened Pants, and Legacy Combat Hardened Boots. Additionally, PUBG: Battlegrounds will also reward its existing players with the Shackle and Shanks Legacy Pan and the Battle-hardened Legacy Nameplate.
All of these benefits will be rewarded for players after their first login once PUBG: Battlegrounds transitions to its free-to-play model. Benefits can also be found under the Customize – Utility tab.
Krafton announced earlier this month that PUBG: Battlegrounds will transition to a free-to-play model on January 12, 2022. The game will become free to download and play, but free players will be limited to certain game items and modes. will be unlocked once players purchase the aforementioned Battlegrounds Plus upgrade. Additionally, Krafton announced three promotional events as the free play transition date approaches.
