PSV Eindhoven virtually secured a place in the Champions League third qualifying round thanks to Galatasaray’s 5-1 loss on Wednesday.
The Eredivisie finalists took full advantage of goalkeeper Fernando Muslera’s howl in the second minute, with Eran Zahavi coming home.
It was a big night for Zahavi and Mario Gotze – and one to forget for Muslera.
Zahavi made it 2-0 in the 35th minute before Emre Kilinc pulled it off seven minutes later.
But the Dutch took matters into their own hands after the break; Gotze went 3-1 in the 51st minute – then Zahavi completed his hat-trick with six minutes remaining.
An unfortunate final intervention from Muslera in the 88th minute allowed Goetze to complete the score 5-1.
The winners of this match will face either Celtic or Midtjylland, who drew 1-1 on Tuesday in the first leg in the third qualifying round, while the losers face St Johnstone in the Europa League third qualifying round. .
Somewhere else, Malmö to beat HJK 2-0, Legia Warsaw to beat Flora 2-1, Olympiacos were winners 1-0 over Nefci and there were draws and blanks Mura-Ludogorets and Slovan-Bratislava-Young Boys.
