Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has revealed that he hopes contract extensions for strikers Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will be finalized soon.
Neymar was linked with a return to Barcelona last summer but insisted in January that he wanted to stay in Paris and hoped Mbappe would follow his lead and commit to his future for the club.
Tying up the duo remains a priority for the French champions and Leonardo says contract talks are on the agenda.
Speaking after PSG’s 3-2 win over Bayern Munich in their Champions League quarter-final first leg, Leonardo said Sky in Italy: “We’ll be happy to have contract talks too. I think we’ll have some news that will make us all happy soon, but we’ll see.
“We will soon get to a more concrete situation with them, but now we have to focus on the competition as we enter the final phase.”
PSG have put themselves in a strong position to advance to the Champions League semi-finals, after a brace from Mbappe and a strike from Marquinhos earned them three away goals.
The French side are aiming to win their first Champions League title and get better after finishing second at Bayern Munich a season ago, and Leonardo is happy with the progress they are making.
“Tonight we showed a proud performance, in a complicated situation, with a lot of absentees, snow, Bayern on a 19-game unbeaten streak in the Champions League. I’m very happy. We also needed the ‘a little luck,’ Leonardo added.
“We have always been able to establish ourselves in the decisive Champions League games – Manchester (United), Barcelona and today this team is constantly improving and tonight has been proof of our strength.
“Our team is young, we will have the second leg now and we will have to have a different approach, we will have to improve our management of the game compared to when we faced Barcelona. We hope to have players like [Alessandro] Florenzi and [Marco] Verratti back. “
