During an interview with “Pod Save America” published Thursday Friday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said student loan debt forgiveness is “on the table” and that the high costs are “an important thing to consider”. That’s a big part of the consideration.
PSAKI answered a question [relevant exchange begins around 1:00:55] on whether taking executive action on student loan debt forgiveness is still on the table saying, “Yeah, still on the table. … So like you said, it ends on August 31st. We then have to decide if it’s extended and what you’re looking at, even though the economy is very strong, we created more jobs last year than any year in history, even though it’s is the case, we know, as we have talked about, that the costs are too high. And certainly, not having to pay off student loans — no one has had to pay a dollar, a dime, anything in student loans since Joe Biden was president, and if that can help people ease the burden of costs in other parts of their life, this is an important thing to consider. That’s a big part of the consideration. So by August 31, either it’s going to be extended or we’re going to make a decision…on canceling student debt.
