Pro-Palestinian protesters shut down Golden Gate Bridge, I-880 in Oakland, causing major delays
OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — Protesters are causing major traffic problems in the Bay Area, including in Oakland and on the Golden Gate Bridge, as part of a global economic blockade in solidarity with Palestine.
The first protest Monday morning took place on northbound I-880 in Oakland, where demonstrators blocked all lanes. The protest took place on 5th Avenue, where people brought barrels onto the roadway and chained themselves to the barrels. Since then, the police have cut the channels.
Southbound I-880 was also closed as protesters moved toward the interstate.
Traffic remains blocked and there is no estimated time when the highway will reopen.
Protesters also blocked all southbound lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is now backed up for miles to Marin.
Organizers say the protests are part of A15, a global economic blockade in solidarity with Palestine and calling for an arms embargo and an end to U.S. taxpayer funding for Israel.

Protests blocked traffic in other major cities Monday morning, including Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.
