Cary Elwes was bitten by a rattlesnake and taken to hospital, the actor shared on Monday.

The 59-year-old ‘Princess Bride’ star posted a photo of her injured finger on Instagram, along with a lengthy caption thanking everyone who helped her.

“Bit not by a ROUS but a rattlesnake,” Elwes began, referencing the acronym Rodents of Unusual Size from the movie “Princess Bride.” “I am grateful to the staff at Malibu Urgent Care, the LA County Fire Department, and the staff and healthcare professionals at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for their excellent care. I am recovering well thanks to all such wonderful people.”

Elwes was bitten near his home in Malibu, Calif., TMZ reported.

The actor noted in his caption that he’s “recovering well” and thanked the medical professionals who were there to help him.

Elwes was bitten on his finger, which left a huge gash and turned him blue. In her Instagram post, you can also see that her whole hand was badly swollen.

One of Elwes’ most famous roles was when he starred in the 1987 cult classic “Princess Bride” and played title character Westley, aka the Dread Pirate Roberts.

Elwes has since penned a behind-the-scenes storybook of her time on set called “As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From The Making of The Princess Bride.” He presented the book at New York Comic Con in 2007, 27 years after the film’s release, and noticed something new in some of the film’s diehards.

“There were a few fans with ‘As You Wish’ tattoos today, they seem to be getting more and more lately, so that’s a good thing,” Elwes said at the time. “I think I can speak for the entire cast, we all feel incredibly blessed that this movie has resonated with so many people.”

Elwes said that without “Princess Bride”, he wouldn’t be where he is now.

“I was 23 when I made the movie and it was my first big Hollywood movie and it changed my life so profoundly, gave me the career I have today and the wonderful life I leads, that’s why I wanted to write the book,” he said. mentioned. “Not just to express how much the movie meant to me, but to share with the fans how much fun it was.”
