Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the London premiere of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ at Leicester Square in London on Thursday evening.

The royal couple walked in alongside the film’s star, Tom Cruise, speaking in front of a fighter jet parked near the red carpet. Middleton wore a long black Roland Mouret dress and William sported a classic tuxedo.

William, a former Royal Air Force helicopter pilot, and Middleton were introduced to other cast members, including Miles Teller. Teller plays the son of Cruise’s friend, Goose, from the original 1986 film “Top Gun.”

The premiere of ‘Top Gun’ is being organized by Paramount Pictures and The Film and TV Charity, which supports thousands of people working behind the scenes in the UK film and TV industry. The charity provided support during the coronavirus pandemic when many members of the industry lost their livelihoods.

Cruise, 59, spoke on Prince William’s red carpet.

“We have a lot in common,” he said, according to My London. “We both love England, and we’re both airmen, we both love to fly.”

Cruise is no stranger to the British royal family. He met William’s grandfather, Prince Philip, in 2017 at a dinner commemorating The Outward Bound Trust’s 75th anniversary at Buckingham Palace.

He had already met William’s mother, late princess diana, with his then-wife, Nicole Kidman, in 1992 at the premiere of the film “Far and Away.” He then attended Diana’s funeral in 1997 with Kidman, 54.

Cruise knows the royal family well as he co-hosted an event celebrating 70 years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign at the Royal Windsor horse show on Sunday. The Queen made a rare appearance to see the show ‘A Gallop Through History’.

The 96-year-old monarch made another surprise visit to a London train station on Tuesday to see a new underground line named in her honour.

Queen Elizabeth, who is celebrating 70 years on the throne, was spotted at Paddington Station, where she unveiled a plaque saying she has officially opened the Elizabeth line. The reigning monarch wore a sunny yellow outfit with a matching hat adorned with blue flowers. Beaming, she walked slowly with a cane in hand as she met workers.

“We are all incredibly touched, moved and grateful to Her Majesty for coming to open the Elizabeth Line today,” said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 57. “It was fantastic to see her.”
