Pregnant woman killed in accident in County Limestone

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) soldiers say a pregnant woman was killed in a car crash just outside Athens early Saturday morning.

According to an ALEA statement, the accident happened around 2 a.m. on Zehner Road.

Laurina R. Hernandez, 28, of Quincy, Illinois, was seven months pregnant when the accident happened. She was a passenger when the car left the road and hit a ditch, causing the car to overturn. Hernandez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

She was taken to Athens Limestone Hospital where she later died of her injuries. The driver was not injured.
