LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WXIN) – Two 12-year-old girls have been arrested and one has been charged for an alleged violent assault on another girl in Logansport, Indiana, over the weekend.

According to the Logansport Police Department, officers received a call from dispatch around 7:30 a.m. Saturday regarding a minor who had been “beaten.”

“From what I’ve learned at this point in the investigation, it’s very sensitive. That’s what I would consider serious,” said Sgt. Dan Frie. been arrested at this point, it’s different battery-related charges, and whatever else you could look at that goes with it.”

Frye added: “This is very important, very serious. It is a little heartbreaking to watch the videos and hear what has been alleged at this point.

Family members of the victim, also a 12-year-old girl, said she was invited to what she believed was a slumber party with friends on Friday night.

“Over the weekend, she was tortured, beaten, kidnapped. Two young females sat on her for two hours so she couldn’t breathe, they burned her with lighters. It goes on and on,” said Renita Contreras, the victim’s aunt.

Family and friends also told WXIN that the victim suffered cuts to the face with a sharp object and part of his hair was shaved overnight.

“They didn’t harass her. They tortured her,” said Jaimie Tribbett, the victim’s mother. “My daughter has been mentally and physically tortured and it’s not right.”

Due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and the ages of those believed to be involved, police said they were unable to confirm specific details regarding what happened.

However, police said the matter went beyond intimidation. They said officers determined probable enough cause based on their preliminary investigation to arrest the two girls who were allegedly involved the day they learned of the incident.

“My heart goes out to the young woman. We apologize to this young woman for what she is facing at such a young age. Our investigation is ongoing. We received emails just yesterday,” said Frye.

Frye said he wanted to make it clear that the police take the allegations about what happened very seriously.

“These are not pleasant calls for anyone in law enforcement and this one in particular goes to the extreme with the alleged suspects also being minors,” Frye said. “More often than not we deal with adults victimizing minors and this one was a little different.”

According to relatives of the victim and his family, the incident was recorded on video and shared.

“My niece in the video looked like she was lying dead and it wasn’t an image our family needed to see or was ever ready to see,” Contreras said. ” It’s a little girl. What these young females did to him is unimaginable.

The victim’s mother said her daughter was recovering from her physical injuries, but still had a long way to go.

“It hurts a lot because now she has for the rest of her life to look over her shoulder or wonder if she can trust this person or that person. It’s absolutely awful,” Tribbett said. “I hope my daughter can get justice and the other little girl, I hope she stays in this for a long time and gets the help she needs.”

“We hope and pray that he doesn’t let go. We need justice for my niece. She’s young, she’s not even a teenager yet, so it’s really impacted our family. It touched her,” Contreras said.

The Cass County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that a minor was charged in the case in juvenile court and was taken into custody by a circuit court judge. She faced a judge for an initial hearing on Tuesday morning.

The suspect is charged with the juvenile equivalents of criminal detention causing grievous bodily harm, intimidation with a deadly weapon and assault causing grievous bodily harm – all felony charges.

“Officers will continue to investigate the other alleged incidents and we will continue to investigate this one in particular. There’s still information coming in, there’s things we’re going to do in conjunction with the DA’s office, for example, search warrants and so on,” Frye said. “We will continue to work on this particular case, as well as another that we continue to receive emails and things that we were able to investigate further.”

Frye asks if anyone has any information about the particular incident or anything that might help investigators, that they contact the Logansport Police Department.
