Postman remains hospitalized after being brutally beaten at Brookline

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A 25-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service remains hospitalized after being brutally beaten on his way to Mount Lebanon and Brookline this weekend.

Postman Charles Schmiedlin was badly beaten with a baseball bat in an unprovoked attack.

According to a criminal complaint filed against Matthew Harrison, 43, Schmiedlin was attacked from behind while outside his postal vehicle.

The complaint states that Schmiedlin’s wrist and arms were broken, as well as significant injuries to his head, back and his eyes were swollen.

The Pittsburgh Police SWAT team was called in to arrest Harrison after he went into hiding at his home in Brookline.

Schmiedlin recovers and Harrison faces charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
