Ben Potter, the popular YouTube personality known as Comicstorian, died on June 8 in what his wife Nathalie Potter called an “unfortunate accident.” He was 40 years old.

Details of his death, including the cause and precise location, were not disclosed in his wife’s statement on

With over 3 million subscribers and nearly 4,000 YouTube videos over the past 10 years, Potter, as a Comicstorian, has built a devoted fan base with his original comic book audio dramas. In numerous YouTube videos, he has discussed and analyzed aspects of the Marvel and DC universes.

“For many of you,” writes Nathalie Potter, “he was a comicstorian, expressing stories in several different media. To those close to him, he was one of the best and most supportive people anyone could ask for.

“As a husband, son, brother, friend or even just a stranger,” she continues, “Ben was loving and genuine. He was someone who listened and took time for those close to him. He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure everything was okay. He was our rock and he reassured his loved ones whenever they needed it.

His wife called Potter’s channel “one of his greatest achievements” and vowed that she and the Potter team “wanted to keep it going” to “honor him by continuing to tell great stories written by great people, as well as keeping the memory of our own superhero alive.

“We have supported each other in everything we wanted to do and I am not about to stop now,” writes Nathalie Potter.
