Police warn residents and search for man responsible for attack on three women in Logan Square

CHICAGO (SCS) — The women of logan square remain on edge. A man wanted for a series of attacks is still at large. According to police, he targeted at least three women.

CBS 2’s Asal Rezaei reports from Logan Square near where these attacks took place.

Police and neighbors in this area are on high alert, especially as the weekend approaches. Police said the attacker followed women into their buildings, disguised in construction vests.

The latest attacks occur just 24 hours apart on the same block.

Women like Gaby Ramon who live in this area say they have constantly looked over their shoulder.

“It’s really scary and it doesn’t really make me want to go out after dark. I always want to make sure someone is with me if I go out,” she said.

The latest assault took place on Saturday near the 2000 block of North Humboldt. The attacker placed a black bag over the head of a 36-year-old woman as she entered his apartment building. He took off in a nearby alley after she started screaming.

On Friday, police believe the same man followed a 39-year-old woman to her apartment building near the 1600 block of North Humboldt. He banged her head against a wall before sexually assaulting her.

Victims told police that the suspect was wearing a construction vest during the attacks. His description matches a suspect in an attack in early April when a man tried to break into the apartment of a 36-year-old woman, also in the 2000 block of North Humboldt.

Edwin Roman, a volunteer from a nearby church, said he and other members had warned women to be extra careful since the community alert was issued.

“It’s concerning because a lot of women are coming to church, a lot of young women and we’re educating them all so they’re aware of the situation,” Roman said.

For now, local women say they will look out for each other.

“All you can do is make sure you don’t leave anyone behind, close doors, make sure everything is locked and encourage your neighbors to do the same,” Ramon said.

We’ve spoken to several stores in the area, even some residents with outdoor surveillance cameras – so far none of their footage has captured the suspect.

the police are asking everyone to pay close attention to their surroundings as their investigation continues.
