Police raid German far-right MEP’s office in China spy probe – POLITICO
BRUSSELS — Belgian and German police conducted searches Tuesday in the European Parliament offices of a far-right MEP and his aide as part of an investigation into suspected Chinese espionage.
German authorities said federal prosecutors had requested a search of the offices of MEP Maximilian Krah, the leading candidate for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in next month’s European elections, and his aide Jian G., suspected of “activity as a secret service agent.”
German police arrested the aide in April, shaking the AfD as it sits second in national polls.
A spokesperson for the Belgian public prosecutor’s office confirmed that it had received a request for mutual legal assistance from its German counterpart and was cooperating with him in this case.
