Police locate the body of a 26-year-old woman who disappeared near the shore of Woodstock

ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) – The body of a 26-year-old woman who disappeared from a riverbank at Olde Rope Mill Park in Woodstock has been located.

Authorities identified the woman as Ciara Rose Baughn of Holly Springs.

Police said they received calls from the woman’s mother just before 1.30am who said her daughter had called her from the park overnight and when she arrived to check on her daughter she found her swimming in Little River during park hours.

“Her daughter had contacted her to get her some dry clothes, and when she got to the park, her daughter didn’t want to leave the river, so she called 911,” said Stacy Brown, marketing and communications manager. communications at Woodstock.

Officers responded to the park and found the woman in the river. After trying to pull her out of the water and throwing in safety ropes and a flotation device, firefighters said the woman continued to swim in the river until they lost her near the I overpass. -575.

“His mother and father are still at the scene. His father asked to join the search. I know that all of our first responders and city staff are hopeful that this will have a positive outcome and that she will then be safe and healthy,” Brown added.

Olde Rope Mill Park has been closed. The Georgia State Patrol and the Department of Natural Resources joined in the search.

His family was notified of his death at the scene and his remains will be transported by the Cherokee Coroner’s Office to the GBI for an autopsy, police told CBS46 News.
