Poland to return suspects in attack on Navalny ally to Lithuania – POLITICO

Two men arrested in early April in Poland, suspected of having attacked Russian opponent Leonid Volkov in Vilnius, should be transferred to Lithuania by mid-May, a spokesperson for the Lithuanian prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday.

The Lithuanian Criminal Police Office, which is coordinating the transfer, did not reveal whether it was also seeking the extradition of the detained Belarusian citizen suspected of ordering the attack, as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk mentioned .

Volkov – a key ally of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died aged 47 in an Arctic prison in February – was violently attacked in his vehicle outside his residence in Vilnius on March 12.

The two Polish suspects were arrested in Warsaw on April 3 and are expected to remain in custody until May 13, according to a court spokesperson.

The Warsaw Regional Court agreed to extradite the suspects to Lithuania on the condition that, if found guilty, they will serve their sentences in Poland.
