Peterborough rose to the top of the Sky Bet League One standings after a 3-0 win at Plymouth.

Darren Ferguson’s Posh extended his winning streak to five games while ending Argyle’s nine-game unbeaten streak.

Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper saved from Sammie Szmodics after 13 minutes, but could only watch the United striker shoot just off 20 yards a minute later.

Szmodics soared over the crossbar after being caught by Jonson Clarke-Harris just after the half hour as the forward cleared halfway after facing Argyle center-back Jerome Opoku .

Argyle’s best opportunity in the first half came to hard-working midfielder Panutche Camara.

His lowered chest and slanted volley tied to goal were superbly saved by Christy Pym after 40 minutes.

Peterborough forward Szmodics shot the visitors at close range in the 46th minute as Argyle’s defense failed to clear Joe Ward’s cross from the right.

Szmodics was also heavily involved in Posh’s second goal, converted by league top scorer Clarke-Harris after 63 minutes.

His pass from the wide center circle on the right to Ward was crossed in the path of Clarke-Harris, who slipped the ball home to score for the sixth straight game.

Peterborough completed the points when Jack Taylor sent a 25-yard shot into the top corner with six minutes remaining.
