Former Ajax star Rafael van der Vaart believes Manchester United players will have no argument for playing poorly as Erik ten Hag will knock them out of the squad. The Ajax boss is said to be in advanced talks to become the Red Devils’ next permanent manager from the start of next season.
Over the past few years, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had slowly but steadily improved the squad, they struggled to do anything memorable. So much so that the Norwegian eventually lost his job after poor form and his interim replacement Ralf Rangnick struggled to get the team back in shape. This has many fans and critics worried, although the situation has changed with Erik ten Hag set to become the next Manchester United manager.
The Dutchman has done wonders at Ajax and made them one of the best teams in world football despite struggling at the Eredivisie giants a few years ago. It shows the quality and talent that Ten Hag has and Rafael van der Vaart believes it’s time for United players to train and start performing. The former Dutch star also added that the team will no longer have an excuse to play badly as Ten Hag will let them down if they don’t play to his level.
“As a player you have no more arguments. The coaches were fired and they have a great team, but they play really badly. It’s not always the coach’s fault. Now there’s will have a coach who will be very clear,” Van de Vaart told Ziggo Sport.
“You can say: Ten Hag is not the big name in England. That can also be an advantage, because he will give his plan very clearly. If you don’t cooperate, you will probably be sent off.”
