Players Have Defeated An Entire Enemy Faction In Helldivers 2

Updated, 9/04/24:

Yesterday, players celebrated what they thought was the complete eradication of the Automaton Legion in Helldivers 2. The official Helldivers 2 X account (formerly Twitter) even tweeted about players’ success in the galaxy. Now, about a day later, the Automata are back.

“Somehow, the Automatons have returned. As always suspected, the previous Bot force was only an vanguard. A massive fleet has now begun an assault on Cyberstan and the surrounding planets. Helldivers, hold back this unprovoked invasion. The fight continues!”

If you play Helldivers 2, you know that it’s probably going to be really, really bad. Have fun! Let’s save democracy!

Original story, 04/08/24:

Players defeated the entire Automaton robot enemy faction in Helldivers 2, making Operation Swift Disassembly a success. Now, with one of the game’s two enemy factions wiped from the galactic map, players are wondering what developer Arrowhead Game Studios has in store for them.

Last week, a major new order called Operation Swift Disassembly was given to the Helldivers, tasking Super-Earth’s best soldiers with wiping out the Automaton Legion. A few days later, the Automata are no more and Operation Swift Disassembly is complete. The studio congratulated players with the following message on X (formerly Twitter), and while it looks great on the surface, many are wary of what Arrowhead might have planned next.

“You did it, Helldivers. Operation Swift Disassembly was a success! With the robots eradicated and the bugs contained, the galaxy is free again.”

Of course, the galaxy is free…for now. If you’ve been playing Helldivers 2 since launch, you know that players are likely just days away from a new galactic horror, the re-emergence of Automaton, or something even more terrifying. Of course, there’s the funniest timeline where it just means Helldivers 2 is over and Arrowhead is shutting down the servers, as many have joked online, but with this much momentum for the game it doesn’t there’s no chance, it’s the end.
