The encountered difficulties in the early 2010s by Plastimo seem a long way off. The Lorient company, known for its liferafts, life jackets and compasses, and specializing in the production of fittings and equipment for boating, has just acquired, in quick succession, its Spanish distributors and Swedish: Dismarina Mediterranea, based in Barcelona, and Navinordic, based in Henån (southwestern Sweden).
“An excellent year 2020”
These two large investments show the export ambitions of the company based in Lorient-La Base, which employs 90 people, for a turnover of 26 M €. “Plastimo had an excellent year 2020, which encouraged us to accelerate our growth program on the export markets,” says Yann Cornec, operational director of Plastimo, a subsidiary of the French group Alliance Marine since its takeover in 2012. Spain and Scandinavia tick all the boxes: these are very attractive markets on which we are not only targeting the pleasure craft segment but also a significant development of our activity in professional fishing and commercial marine ”.
High potential territories
Dismarina (9 employees, 2.5 M € turnover and a network of 1,000 customers and stores in Spain) and Navinordic (9 employees, 3.5 M € turnover and 800 customers in Sweden) distribute the products of the Plastimo brand for over 30 years. The two distributors, which have become Plastimo subsidiaries, will now have access to other Alliance Marine brands and products. The group is counting on the growth of its international activities with these two additional anchoring points in areas with strong potential and maritime culture.
