Plane crashes into truck in North Carolina

A plane crashed Wednesday afternoon into a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 in central North Carolina, killing the pilot, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Initial reports indicate that a small twin-engine plane was taking off from Davidson County Airport when it decreased in altitude and crashed into the trailer portion of the 18-wheeler traveling south on the highway .
Following the crash, which caused both vehicles to catch fire, the aircraft pilot died at the scene. The name of the deceased is withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
Officer Ned Moultrie said a mechanical failure may have contributed to the crash, but a future investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration will have to determine the cause.
The driver of the truck was slightly injured. No other vehicles were reportedly involved in the incident.
