Plainfield man killed after vehicle hits tree in Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) — A man died after crashing into a tree in Joliet Friday night.

Joliet Police said at around 8:16 p.m. officers responded to the Caton Farm Road and River Bend Lane area for a traffic accident report with injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Mitsubishi Outlander driven by a 55-year-old Plainfield resident was traveling west on Caton Farm Road when the vehicle veered off the road north and struck a tree near the entrance to the Lakewood on Caton Farm Subdivision.

The driver was transported to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department where he was pronounced dead.

It is believed the driver may have suffered a medical condition prior to the crash, police said.

A portion of the roadway was closed for several hours while Traffic Division personnel reconstructed the crash scene.

The accident investigation is ongoing.
