Pigs pardoned to kick off Kansas City BBQ Festival

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – This May 4, The Force was with two lucky piggies who were granted clemency to kick off the Kansas City BBQ Festival at Arrowhead Stadium’s GEHA Field.

KCTV5 attended the pig forgiveness ceremony for Chewbacon the Pig and Ham Solo.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, offensive line chiefs Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith pardoned the two pigs today.

Chewbacon and Ham Solo’s Thanksgiving Ceremony kicks off one of the biggest barbecue festivals in the Midwest!

This year, the Kansas City BBQ Festival takes place Friday through Sunday in the parking lots of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The annual event brings champion pitmasters from across the country to Kansas City.

Organizers say the festival adds millions of dollars to the local economy and food tourism brings tens of millions to the state of Missouri each year.

The festival is free.
