Thousands of people rushed to leave South Lake Tahoe as the resort town was placed on an evacuation order and wildfires rushed towards Lake Tahoe, a large freshwater lake in straddling California and Nevada.

The fire destroyed several homes on Sunday along US 50, one of the main roads leading to the southern end of the lake. He also roared through the Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort, demolishing some buildings but leaving the main buildings at the base intact.

The fire swept through the mountains a few miles southwest of the Lake Tahoe Basin, where thick smoke sent visitors packing as the summer vacation was in full swing ahead of the holiday weekend. work.
