Phillies in Atlanta as South Jersey celebrates Memorial Day

The Phillies enter Memorial Day weekend into a similar purgatory they found themselves in last season, playing inconsistent baseball with a roster of talent that isn’t doing well. This weekend they are in Atlanta to face the National League East leaders Braves for the first time this season. The Braves have one of the best pitching teams in the NL and they are also second in the National League in homers. The Phillies, who lost Game 1 to the Braves on Thursday night, are hoping for road wins as they play seven games in eight days against division rivals the Braves and New York Mets.

The Jersey Shore is still a destination for many people each year and Memorial Day weekend is the start of the summer season for locals who are ready for another great season in South Jersey! The Locker Room with Billy Schweim will continue the decade-plus tradition of our weekly Beach Patrol Report and this weekend we will visit with Surfer Ben Gravy who made a name for himself on Youtube by surfing all over the country.

On the Saturday show, Mike Carlin joins me in the studio as we recap the first two Phillies/Braves games of their four-game series. The Sixers head coach search continues, and we’ll take a look at who the best candidates for the job are. In the second hour, it’s the beach patrol report presented by McCann Realtors of Sea Isle City and the OCBP Lifeguard Alumni Association. The president of the OCBP Lifeguard Alumni Association Jack Brooks joins me in the studio as we fill you in on everything you need to know about this big weekend with so many people heading to the Jersey Shore. This week we will also hear the Head of the Brigantine Beach Patrol Kip Emig. Chief Emig will tell us about all the upcoming rescue and beach events in Brigantine.

On the Sunday show, Producer Danny Ryan is in the studio with me as we talk about the weekend in sports. Every Sunday we go “On the Mound” with former Phillies pitcher Tommy Greene presented by the John R Elliott Campaign for Designated Drivers. Tommy reviews the Phillies’ rollercoaster week and previews Sunday’s finals with the Braves on Sunday Night Baseball. In the second hour, we have a special guest stopping by the studio: Local surf sensation Ben Gravy. Ben has a unique story and a huge following on YouTube. The Philadelphia Inquirer recently ran an article on Ben and we’ll be following his story this Memorial Day weekend.
