Philadelphia juvenile brothers, 10 and 14, turn themselves in for beating 73-year-old man to death

Two underage brothers, ages 10 and 14, turned themselves in to the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit on Monday for their alleged involvement in the murder of James Lambert, 73, who was beaten to death by a mob teenagers on June 24.

No formal charges have yet been filed against the boys and their identities have not been released by police.

Disturbing surveillance footage of the incident released by police shows the group chasing the man down a street in northwest Philadelphia before hitting him with traffic cones shortly before 3 a.m.

One of the juvenile suspects appeared to film the attack on a mobile phone as others chased the victim down the street.

Lambert was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day.

“I just don’t understand what’s going on in our city,” Tania Stephens, Lambert’s niece, told Fox 29 Philadelphia. “He’s walked this path for 60, 70 years of his life, and to have his life snuffed out like this is just unbelievable.”

A $20,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of each suspect.

The Philadelphia Police Department is still looking for five other offenders, who they describe as two black men and three black women in their early to mid-teens.
