Philadelphia Eagles safety Anthony Harris takes 11-year-old Texas girl to ‘Daddy-Daughter Dance’

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Eagles player has gone to the heartland of Texas to fulfill a girl’s dream.

Of all Audrey Soape’s 11 years, last year was the worst. She suddenly lost her father and then her grandfather.

So when it came time for her school’s “daddy-daughter dance,” her mother, Holly, sprang into action, reaching out on social media to Audrey’s favorite football player – child safety. Eagles, Anthony Harris.

“It’s a bit far-fetched…it’s a big ask,” Holly said. “I just asked him if he would come, if he would agree to come. And he said, ‘Not only will I come, but I want to make sure she feels like a princess.'”

“I heard about it about a week before prom. And at first I was really nervous,” Audrey said. “I was a little worried all week that I was going to ruin the dance.”

Harris not only flew in for the dance, he also covered the cost of Audrey’s dress, shoes, hair and makeup.

“He had a car with a driver, come home and pick it up,” Holly said. “He really wanted to make sure she had the best time possible.”

He also made time to meet his brother Jackson.

“It made me feel really happy and feel special because he not only came to just go to the ‘Daddy-Daughter Dance’ with Audrey, he also came to see me,” Jackson said.

The special evening was captured by a professional photographer.

“I was very happy and also felt very special because not many things have happened to people like that, and especially to me,” Audrey said.

While the Eagles went undressed last weekend, Harris still loaned himself out for a big dance, which the Soape family considers a personal victory.

“We would all do anything for our kids when we saw them in pain,” Holly said. “Knowing that there are people out there who will also help to be there for your children and for you is really encouraging for me, and it kind of turned this horrible tragedy into a kind of triumphant moment. ”
