Phil Foden ‘could be the best English talent of his generation’, says Man City legend Sergio Aguero and can only improve after Champions League cameo against Atletico Madrid
Phil Foden has received praise from former Manchester City team-mate and legend Sergio Aguero.
The former Atletico Madrid and Barcelona striker says the England star ‘could be the best English talent of his generation’.
At 21, Foden can still be seen as inexperienced, but doesn’t show it as defenses find it nearly impossible to stop him.
Atletico Madrid found just as many in the Champions League in midweek, when the academy product came off the bench and, within the first two minutes, produced the assist to give City a 1-0 victory .
Since his league debut in 2017, Pep Guardiola has slowly but surely brought him into the first team.
And now he is one of the first names on the Spaniard’s squad sheet.
This season has shown how much he has developed with 20 goal contributions in 35 games in all competitions so far.
For four seasons, Foden was able to play under one of the best strikers in the game, and speaking to Stake, Aguero sang his praises.
“Atletico are always a tough team to beat in the Champions League, but I think City were exceptional on Tuesday night,” said the club’s all-time top scorer.
“They dominated the game and could have scored more than one goal. Atletico will always make it difficult, but City have something to hold on to in Madrid now, which is crucial.
“The draw is not over because Diego Simeone’s side never give up and they can get shocking results, especially at home, so City will have to be careful.
“Phil Foden is an incredible talent and his assist for Kevin De Bruyne was an example of what he can create out of nowhere.
“He could be the best English talent of his generation.
“He has so much quality and it’s easy to forget he’s only 21, with so much time to learn and improve.”
