PGA Tour stars will outperform LIV golfers
Post pundits Mark Cannizzaro and Ian O’Connor make their US Open picks:
Marc Cannizzaro
Justin Thomas: He is in good shape, having won the PGA Championship last month and he would love to stick to the rival LIV Golf Tour, just like his friend Rory McIlroy did last week in Canada, where he beat Thomas to win.
Bryson De Chambeau: He’s been out for some time with a hand and wrist injury, but word is he’s feeling healthy for the first time in months. Wouldn’t it be great theater to see a LIV player duel with one of the PGA Tour’s most ardent supporters in the back nine on Sunday?
Rory McIlroy: He arrives hot after the win in Canada and looks set to end his major championship drought, which has been stuck on four since his last win in 2014.
Matthew Fitzpatrick: He won the 2013 US Amateur, which was played at Brookline, so he has fond memories of the course. He too has just achieved his best result in a major tournament, at the PGA last month.
Sam Burns: Few have had a better year than him, with three wins this season, including two since March. He comes in particularly hot with a victory at Colonial and a tie for fourth place at last week’s Canadian Open.

Ian O’Connor
Rory McIlroy: He’s fresh off his Canadian Open victory and admittedly he’s excited about the defections from LIV Golf. A hot and motivated McIlroy is a dangerous thing.
Justin Thomas: He won the most recent major, held last month, and he pushed McIlroy hard last week. Thomas will not be stuck on two major titles for long.

Jon Rahm: The defending champion, world number 2 and a tenacious competitor who is not afraid of the big stage.
Scottie Scheffler: The Masters champion doesn’t have the same momentum he had earlier this season, when he was winning everything in sight, but remains the highest-ranked player in the world for a reason.
Bryson De Chambeau: I have to put at least one LIV guy here, and it looks like Bryson, the 2020 US Open champion, is feeling relatively healthy.
