Rory McIlroy ended his scorching first-round majors record to take the lead on day one of the 104th PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
McIlroy had posted a combined 35-over-par total in the first round of majors since last winning the 2014 PGA Championship, including one of 73 at the Masters last month, to improve on that stat by dominating his star-studded group on the opening day in Tulsa.

Playing alongside Jordan Spieth – career Grand Slam chaser – and Tiger Woods, who won the 13th of his 15 majors when this venue last hosted the event in 2007, McIlroy has cleared the field and set up an imposing clubhouse goal with an impressive five-under 65.
